1st SA hajjie dies:
The first South African pilgrim who died whilst attempting to perform the fifth pillar of Islam was laid to rest in Makkah on Sunday. This was confirmed by the South African Haj and Umrah Council (Sahuc) to VOC on Sunday evening. According to Sahuc secretary general, Shaheen Essop, Hajji Fadiel Taylor from Hanover Park in Cape Town had arrived in Makkah in ihram with his spouse.
However, the haji – said to be 75 years old – took ill and was taken to hospital before completing his first umrah. He passed away on Sunday afternoon whilst still in ihram and was laid to rest in Makkah just before Maghrib SA time on Sunday evening.
